Just a short update:

With the help of Ken in the neighboring rv site, the entry steps for Nessie were re-installed on Tuesday.  What a relief to be able to get in and out normally! We adapted to the lack of steps fairly well, but the 5 am trips out with the dog were a little dicey, let me tell you! Whether due to the darkness or the blurry eyes (mine, not the dogs), that first step was a killer.  In any case, all is well now and we can scamper about as normal.

Parked next door on the other side are a couple from Canada with a Boston Terrier pup. Bob (the owner) tells me that Casey (the dog) is about 4 years old, and weighs 38 pounds! This is the largest BT I've ever seen! But what a sweetheart.  Bob and I have taken to morning walks on the trail behind the rv park, where we can let the dogs run free, much to their enjoyment. Bostons are particularly eager to please, and neither our pup or Bobs Big Boy have been a problem when we approach other walkers/bikers/dogs on the trail. This morning, Friday, we enjoyed an almost solitary walk, talking about everything from the weather in Canada to the shape of the dogs tails.

Last Tuesday evening, after the step fiasco was resolved, we were invited to dinner by a wonderful couple from Texas. They have just become the proud owners of a new fifth wheel trailer and are enjoying a first voyage. The meal was superb, beans and ham, with a special squash dish where the squash was tossed in flour and corn meal, and fried in bacon drippings (don't tell my cardiologist1). Cornbread and salad completed the quintessential southern meal. Delicious!

On Wednesday, we enjoyed a visit with some fellow Newmar owners.  Ted and his wife were parked next to us at the Newmar factory in Indiana two years ago; both of us were having a bit of work done by the techs there.  We haven't seen them since, although we've kept in touch. They live in their motorhome full time, and have for some thirteen years, but they winter in Tucson, so we've had a chance to see them again. They were kind enough to stay for dinner, and as we were talking and catching up on "what's happening",  the doorbell rang.  It was a couple from Michigan that had been at "Camp Newmar" in '13 at the same time we were there and parked on the opposite side of us! A great afternoon and evening was spent talking about everything from soup to nuts.

Yesterday, Thursday, we took our first trip to "town". A bit of shopping here and there and lunch out got us home mid afternoon. Today as I write this we are scheduled to have dinner with the Texans, but D has come down with what might be a cold. We're hoping for allergies, but the dinner thing may not work out.  We'll see. That's probably just as well, since the wind is blowing 35 mph with higher gusts.  The temp is ok, about 74, but the wind is crazy. Oh well, it's the desert…..
