Last Friday, the sixth, Donna woke up with a full blown cold. Complete with dripping nose, cough, and fever. She had felt a bit funny on Thursday night, so we cancelled dinner with the Texans and went to bed early. Repeat on Friday. Repeat on Saturday. Yesterday, Sunday, we took a short ride in the car to the town of Green Valley, about 20 miles south of here. There's not much there since it's mostly a retirement demographic. We did find a Petco store where we dropped in to buy Sasha some (not very) much needed toys and a new walking harness.
When Sasha and I took our morning walk today, she seemed to enjoy having the leash attached to her shoulders instead of to her collar. As we become more familiar with the 2.5 mile walk, we've found large sections where we can leave the paved trail and Sasha can run unfettered for a bit. She really likes to poke her nose down the ground squirrel holes! Maybe not such a good idea. One of the things we picked up at Petco was a laser pointer. Designed for cats, Sasha chases that red spot for hours; from one end of the motorhome to the other, she's convinced that if she bites it hard enough, she'll make it stop moving!
On Saturday, whilst D was napping, I decided to see if the bicycle still worked! There is a pretty good bike trail system in Tucson, but large gaps exist, so to get to the longest completed section I had to ride along a busy four lane highway. All was well until I had to cross the street, but with a bit of luck and a co-operative traffic signal, I made it. The paved trail is a joy to ride, with enough hills and valleys to keep it interesting. At each road crossing the city has constructed underpasses that allow trail users to avoid traffic. Cool! The going down part was fun, the going up not so much… I wasn't able to ride to the end of the path because evening was settling in, but it's on the list for later. All told, 20 miles clicked off on the odometer.
The cloud formations as I rode were spectacular! Or, as they tell me, "normal" in the southwest. A storm was blowing in, so the clouds were very pretty, I thought.
The path was easy for most riders, but comfortable for me. Lots of native landscaping, as well as areas of spring flowers.
Doggone those power lines, anyway! It could have been a nice pic…
D is feeling much better today, so we have plans to get "Lundin" a bit later. That's the meal between Lunch and Dinner…A mexican restaurant has been recommended to us, so we'll see how it goes. It's advertised as a Mexican Steakhouse. Hmm….
Speaking of cooking, you'll be proud of me for cooking dinner the two nights that D was out of commission: the first night I fixed burritos (from a mexican food truck down the road where no one could speak English, but smiled a lot and the food was good), and the second night I fixed (a phone call to Olive Garden for two plates of Spaghetti and Meatballs with soup and breadsticks). So, I've about exhausted my cooking abilities!
The weather in Tucson has decided to turn very nice. After almost a week of high wind and cool temps we have an 80+ degree day with almost no wind. I may have to put the flagpole back up! I've raised it and lowered it 4 times in the last week because of the wind! The pole has a solar powered light on it that casts a glow on the flag as well as the surrounding area. The rv park, gated and fenced, still has been experiencing a rash of bicycle thefts. About two a night find their way over or through the fence, and management seems to feel that they have no responsibility in the matter. I'm hoping that with a cover, three hefty cable locks, and the nightlight from the flag, we'll still have our bicycles when we leave here!
Till next time!
