Nessie is Home!

The Newmar Customer Service people came to get Nessie at 6 am again today.  They requested that we be available for a final walk-around this afternoon, as they anticipated completing the to-do list this morning.  We spent some extra time at the "coffee shop" this morning, chatting with some of the local residents.  Dale has a local business hauling gravel, sand, and decorative rock as well as doing underground repair and installation of water lines, sewer systems and such.  He installs lawns and is the local dealer for Taylor Water Stoves. Since I have some background in construction, we hit a common chord and talked for quite a long time about the difficulties of hiring competent help and running a business.

Cynthia came by for coffee after going to the gym.  She is a Special Ed teacher at the local middle school as well as working at the local Martin's Grocery store on weekends.  Her she and her husband own an apple orchard just off the main street in Nappanee, and make and sell home prepared apple products as well as fresh apples. We drove by their fruit stand a bit later but it was not open that early in the morning.

Looking for a way to kill a couple of hours, we took the golf clubs out to the local driving range.  Now, that's not such a big deal, but it's the first time since last year that I've held a club.  And it showed!  After a large bucket of balls, however, the aim came back and the distance got dialed in.  At least as good as it ever gets…

Nessie was ready at 12:30, so we spent an hour going over the work order.  Everything was done to our satisfaction, if not our hope.  Several concerns could not be reproduced, so we can't hold Newmar responsible for fixing things that they cannot define.  Kind of frustrating, but understandable.

Our Customer Service rep came by at 4:30 to see what condition our condition was in.  Steve made some notes, gave us some advice and encouragement.  This next week Newmar is going to have a huge presence in Escanaba, Michigan, at the Newmar Owners Rally.  We're not attending, but the complete customer service and parts departments are going to be shut down for the entire week.  Only the production facilities are going to be open, so repair work will be extremely limited here in Nappanee.

It's been a quiet day in Indiana, with the highlight of the day being Nessies' return and…..
