We've been somewhat at a loss for things to do around Philadelphia. Oh, I know, we could go back into Philly and visit more museums and art galleries, but we've sorta OD'd on that for awhile. Friday afternoon after having a repair done to Nessie by Crossroads Trailer's mobile tech, we searched out a dog park for Sasha.
The repair? One of the four solenoid valves that control the leveling jacks had begun to leak. The manufacturer, HWH Corp, diagnosed the problem over the phone and overnighted a new valve at no charge (Big Thanks, HWH!). We met Bill, the mobile tech as he was working on another rv in the park and decided to have him do the install. He did, in much shorter time than I would have, and we were back in business.
OK, back to the dog park.
Set in a huge park/soccer field/baseball diamond/field hockey complex, the dog park is divided into areas for large and small dogs and completely fenced. Sasha was most comfortable in the large dog area due to the size of her curiosity. An hour of so of running and sniffing in the cool shade of the trees and she was ready to leave. While the temp/humidity was comfortable, we were ready for some air conditioning. As we left the park we noticed some colorful mushrooms growing, probably a result of all the recent rain.
Today, Saturday, 7/18, our last full day near Philadelphia, we decided to drive to Atlantic City and it's famous boardwalk. Nuh-uh. The AC turnpike is roughly 40 miles long. This is what traffic was like for 39 of those miles:
So we made a quick trip through town, noting the curious mix of old and new buildings.
Apartments/Condos along the Atlantic side loom over seemingly ancient trolley tracks and narrow streets. Parking is near impossible.
We stopped at Fiesta Pizza for a couple of sandwiches to go (Donna did the Italian Grinder and I had the Italian Hoagy. Difference? The Grinder is baked in the pizza oven, and the Hoagy is cold). Oh, by the way….I've always said "Eye-talian", but I'm informed that is incorrect. "It-alian" is the preferred pronunciation hereabouts. Sorry.
In any case, south a bit out of AC, we found another dog park. Beaches, dogs, and free are words not normally used around here, so Malibu Beach was crowded with mutts because it has all three.
Sasha had her first introduction to the ocean, with disastrous results. I don't have a photo because it happened so quickly, but she decided to chase the waves….when she got out over her head she made a quick 180 and paddled like a mad-dog for shore! She did, however, make friends with several pups and had a great time running circles around them! D and I ate our sandwiches, drank our sodas, and had a large piece of white cake with creme frosting whilst setting in our folding chairs and enjoying the cool ocean breeze!
Site 85 has been good to us for the last week. Our stay at Timberlane Campground was very pleasant. It's a quiet place, surrounded by dense woods, but with large grassy areas for walking or playing. Not too many kids here, although the weekend brought a few in, but still very quiet. Nice place. (Except for the wifi, which is advertised to be free. It's only free in the office. Elsewhere in the park it's a cost item.)
So long, Clarksboro, and Hello, New York!
