Whew! It's been a busy few days since I last posted, so I'll start the catch-up. We left New Jersey Sunday morning and drove one hundred fifty six miles to a little town called Florida in the southern part of New York state. I've had about enough of the toll road system, so I calculated a route that would avoid most, but not all, tolls. Should have just gone on the Toll Road! We drove our little, tiny, 50,000 lb house through downtown Princeton, yes, the one with the university, on roads that had signs prohibiting any vehicle over 5 tons. Do the math. We escaped with all pieces intact, although Donna was none too happy about the whole thing. I couldn't let her know until later that I was nervous also, because my ego wouldn't let me…...
Florida is known for growing onions, and we're told that if you've ever eaten in a McDonalds, you've eaten onions from Florida, NY. Who knew? The whole of town is about 3 blocks long, and the largest store seems to be either a restaurant called the Copper Bottom or a Dunkin' Donuts shop.
We're in site 47 at the Black Bear Campground, near the top of a hill overlooking a beautiful green valley. Unfortunately the wifi is marginal and the satellite reception is questionable due to nearby trees. But it's a quiet park, and one of the closest to New York City, about 50 miles southeast. As we were heading north, we (and our resident flamingo) saw the Welcome sign. Bird seems a bit perplexed!
After setting up, we took a short drive around the area. A short drive away from Florida is the village of Warwick, which includes some extraordinary old homes.
As well as reproduction candlelights on all the electric poles in town!
Returning to the motorhome, we talked a little with Noel in the motorhome next door about his life in Panama City, Florida, and how things are different in this Florida! We hit the proverbial hay early due to an early call Monday morning.
