Sash immediately became fast friends with Bella, another Boston Terrier.
In between tussles Sasha ran in circles "just because she could"!
Every now and then the two pups had to take a break in the cool shade.
The company that Donna worked for the last few years of her career has a presence in Camp Hill, PA, just west of Harrisburg across the Susquehanna River. D has never visited the facility, but had a close relationship via phone and computer with a great number of the people who work there, and so she wanted to at least see the outside of the building. We drove the 10 miles west and checked into the parking lot for a picture.
One of the people D worked with, Melanie, and her husband, offered to show us a bit of the countryside after Melanie ended her workday. One of the first things they showed us was the infamous Three Mile Island Nuclear Generating Station. You remember the story I'm sure, where, in 1979 a partial core meltdown released a measurable amount of radioactive material. Conflicting studies show that either there were no adverse effects from the release, or that lung cancer and leukemia rates have increased. The studies continue. The plant remains in operation, with three of the five reactors running, and the remaining damaged two closed. The plant uses water from the Susquehanna River for cooling, hence the steam escaping from the towers.
The two non-functional reactors remain under lockdown.
After exploring some of the small towns around Harrisburg: Middletown, Highspier, and Hummelstown, we arrived in Hershey, PA, the town built on Chocolate. Even the streetlights are made of chocolate! OK, not really…...
You get a taste of the town just by looking at the street signs!
After a lovely dinner at Hoolihans in Hershey, we leisurely wandered back to the rv park. The day was a good one with a nice ending. Thanks, Melanie, for showing us the town!
