One hundred seventy seven miles south of Campbell, NY, lies the Capitol of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg. About 20 minutes after leaving Camp Bell RV Park, we were in PA. The countryside changed subtly, becoming more softly rolling and quiet, with farms interspersed with dense woodlands.
PA has built a beautiful Welcome Center/Scenic Overlook overlooking Tioga Reservoir, the town of Tioga, and the Tioga River.
The earth-filled dam is counterpoint to the colorful leaves on the nearby trees.
You can see that the wind was blowing 10 to 20!
US 15 took us south through gentle farmlands and Microsoft skies. After paralleling the Susquehanna River on the west side, we crossed over to the east side near Clarks Ferry and took US 322 on into Harrisburg, PA.
Just off of 322 we found the Harrisburg East Campground. We have been assigned site 211, which is not satellite friendly, but does have full hookups and cable TV. The park is small and starting to show its age, with a great many long term campers. The fact that the park is about 40 yards from busy I283 adds some noise to the mix. We can see cars, trucks and motorcycles buzzing up and down the interstate, and we have a clear view of an offramp sign. We spent several enjoyable minutes making bets as to which way a particular vehicle was going to go! The amenities in the park are minimal, but the staff is friendly even though they don't seem to know how big their sites are. We had to do a bit of backing and filling to get into our site, and I'm already stressing over how to get Nessie out of here! Wah, wah, wah. Never happy.
D has suggested that on travel days we go out to dinner (or supper, if you prefer). Today was our first time with that plan, and we ended up at a close-by Cracker Barrel. Some down home comfort food took care of the hunger pangs. The Okra, greens and grits sure were good! Of course, the meatloaf and country fired steak were outstanding as well!
