We've been lying low in Niagara Falls this weekend due to the combo of huge crowds and hot weather. Saturday was spent washing the motorhome and car, and doing laundry and cleaning. The most exercise we got was walking to the office to pay our $15 fee for washing the vehicles. The temps are in the mid 80's with mid 80's humidity, so D and I are prone to wilting!
A lazy morning today, on Labor Day 2015. We ventured out to The Olympia restaurant for brunch, and then drove a bit north to get another look at Niagara Falls. Initially we spent time exploring the Niagara River as it approaches the American Falls. It's almost unbelievable, unless you see it in person, to imagine such a large amount of water flowing at such an incredible speed. Lake Erie must be at quite a higher elevation than Lake Ontario for the Niagara River to flow such an incredible amount of water.
We couldn't stay away from the Falls, though, and worked our way around the observation platform to view the Falls from different vantage points.
It's difficult to choose a favorite photo of Niagara Falls, but this one comes close.
We certainly didn't get to see all the touristy things in the area, but we hit the high spots and managed to skip some of the low spots. Of course, "tours" are all the rage here, with passengers seeing 18 different things in 4 hours. We skipped the package deals, choosing to pick and select what was important to us. We probably won't return to the area unless it's to check to see if the Falls are still flowing in 50 years or so! The sheer number of visitors to Niagara Falls State Park is staggering. And that's what most visitors do (stagger) due to the lack of consideration by so many visitors of other than local heritage. The prices are high, the crowds are huge, and the Falls are incredible. Tough combination, but definitely a Bucket List item!
