Stop Me if You've Seen This

We left Indian Head this morning about 8:30, expecting to spend a great deal of time driving east to Winnipeg, Manitoba. As it turned out, the 296 mile trip was nothing if not boring. It's impossible to describe just how boring....I mean, beautiful....the plains are across the southern part of Canada.

Stop me if you've seen this picture before....

Now and again something interesting appeared, like this truck carrying two bases for huge grain storage silos. The load was so wide that it covered 2/3 of the width of the eastbound lanes, and whenever a group of cars would accumulate, the truck driver would move completely off onto the road shoulder for a few seconds to allow them to pass. We were unwilling to try the passing trick, so we hung back and followed. The truck was traveling at 70 mph, so that wasn't a big problem for us! We got this pic as the truck began to move over for a left turn.

Our aversion to staying in KOA campgrounds was reinforced today as we checked into the Winnipeg West KOA. The campground is adjacent to an ESSO gas station, and in fact, the same counter is used to check into the campground as is used to pay for cigarettes, gasoline, and "pop"! The interior roads here are dusty dirt, tree branches scrape rv's, the cell signal is nonexistent, and the wifi doesn't work. Oh, did I mention that the water pressure is so low we have to use the onboard water pump to take a shower? OK, quit'cher whining...the park is one of the closest to Winnipeg with 50 amp power, a necessity on these warm summer days.

Ok, there is one more thing....we are just 50 yards or so from TransCan Number 1, with all the traffic a major east/west highway is expected to have!

We're generally about 30 minutes west of Winnipeg, and expect to cruise into town several times over the next few days. Stay tuned!
