Donna caught up on laundry and we cleaned the motorhome a bit, took a shower and prepared for dinner with Roger and Mary and their friends, Don and Reva, who live a few miles from Cape Girardeau. Don and Reva, along with R and M, are a retired California Highway Patrol couples, and had many stories to tell. We went into downtown Cape Girardeau to a Cajun restaurant called Broussards for dinner.
Clockwise from left, Roger, Mary, Donna, Reva, Don, and The Dummy.
After dinner, we drove a few blocks to see the murals on the seawall built to protect the city from flooding during periods of high Mississippi River water. The mural is actually in two adjacent parts: The Missouri Wall of Fame Mural includes either were born in Missouri or achieved fame while living in the state. The Cape's contribution to this mural includes radio host Rush Limbaugh and NASA astronaut Linda Godwin. The second portion of the artwork is the Mississippi River Tales Mural. This 1,100 foot long mural features 24 panels that portray The Cape's history and heritage.
Booker T. Washington, Joe Buck, Joe Garagiola, and James Cash Penny are honored.
Just a bit farther down the line we found paintings of Jean Harlow, Betty Grable, Vincent Price and Redd Fox.
Sports figures include Stan Musial, Yogi Berra, and George Brett.
Home town boy Rush Limbaugh is also painted on the wall. Regardless of political views, The Cape is proud of a local boy who made good.
With a final salute to the great shoes we were wearing in honor of the special occasion, we bid a goodby to the wall.
Today, Wednesday, was another low-down day. While Roger and Mary went to visit the Trail of Tears memorial and state park just east of The Cape, Donna and I took care of errands. Sometime during the motorhome battery business, the electric motor that operates the front windshield shade failed. We were able to troubleshoot the problem and order a new motor, and in the meantime gaze fondly at the old bed sheet we have clipped to the front of the coach! A trip to a local barbershop, Hair Styling for Men, got me a very nice haircut, so that was a plus. When R and M returned from their adventure, a pedicure appeared on the schedule, followed by dinner at the BBQ restaurant called Dexter's. Wow, what a day! Seems like we've been busy since we arrived in The Cape, but haven't done anything....we are going to try for a bit of sightseeing tomorrow!
