Excuses, excuses....

Our last day in Columbus was a lazy, lazy day. We got up a bit late, did some laundry, and planned out trip for the next few days. The hurricane in Florida, Irma, is projected to lightly impact the area we were planning to go through tomorrow and the next day, so Mary and I pow-wow-ed about alternatives. We'll see how that all shakes out. In the meantime we went into town to check out a 1900 era Soda Fountain,  Zaharakos. Refurbished in 2009, this is a legitimate old-time soda fountain and ice cream parlor!

The place was filled with awe-struck kids!

The marble soda fountain behind the bar continues to dispense flavored soda drinks after more than 100 years!

Placemats detail some of the phrases used back in the day to describe soda fountain orders.

Donna and I both ordered Hot Fudge Sundaes, and they were delicious, if a bit small....

Next door to the soda fountain, a museum of antique soda fountains and music machines attracted our attention. Oh, for the Good Old Days, when a spritz of flavoring and a zap of carbonated water would make a young'un grin from ear to ear!

We used the excuse of visiting the covered bridge in Mill Race Park to slip into town this afternoon. The bridge is nice, if not unusual, so without a photo or further ado, it was off to the soda fountain!

We'll be heading for "the turn" tomorrow, working out way west and home. There is much remaining to be seen as we have plotted a course into areas that we've not yet enjoyed. At least for the most part. Off we go!
