Montgomery is the Capitol city of Alabama, and we wish we had another day to explore the city, but we're on a mission, and are only doing the "overnight" thing here.
We left Milliedgeville this morning at about 10, after stressing a bit about our route to Montgomery. Fortunately, Debbie and Larry had given us a tip about a map that made our journey much easier. It's the old-fashioned Google Maps, but I hadn't checked it out in years, and it's much improved. After wiggling through Macon, we bailed off on Georgia 49 west toward Butler. The road ID changed to US 80 somewhere along in there, and as we blew by Columbus, we were on a four-lane highway, in Alabama, and in Central Daylight Time. Hey, a lot happened right there! So long, Georgia Bulldogs, Hello, Auburn Tigers and the Alabama Crimson Tide!
The idea was to get to an Interstate Highway as soon as possible, so we bypassed Little Texas, Crawford, and Jimmy Carter's birthplace, and took US 280 directly to Opelika, where we transitioned onto I85 which took us to I65, which took us to Sassafras Circle, and our RV Park O'The Day: The Woods, in Montgomery.
We are snuggled into site 401, one of their extra-long big rig sites, and are enjoying the awesome clouds pass by! A slight shower is predicted, but who knows?
This park has mixed reviews, and it may be because of the neighborhood it is in, I don't know. We don't intend to venture out this evening, so that doesn't matter. The park itself is well kept, the staff is very friendly, and the price, at $30 a night, is very acceptable. We'll be leaving asap in the morning, which shouldn't be too hard since we've gained an hour today.
We'll be in touch!
