We left Little Farm on the River on Tuesday at about 10. Little Farm, as you know, is on the west bank of the Ohio River. An uneventful journey into Kentucky via I75 sent us to Lexington, KY, where we picked up I64 east. Only one incident on this section of road, when a car changed lanes and clipped the rear tire of a motorcycle, flattening the rear tire and sending the rider to the hospital. While we were waiting for the investigation to be completed (about an hour) we had ample opportunity to research the age-old question of “how do highway patrolmen answer the call of nature?”.
Eventually we crossed into West Virginia and located our rv park of choice: Robert Nowlon Air Park, located in Huntington, WV, on the bank of the......Ohio river. Here we are, 243 miles later, watching the same river! The park is also located by a short recreational grass air strip. We have yet to see a plane arrive or depart, but the runway is pretty green. Sasha has designs on a tennis ball out on the grass! The park itself is very minimal, with sites close together and with dusty dirt roads. Unfortunately, it’s the only choice for miles, and the next nearest park was booked solid; a phenomenon we’re seeing a lot of this year.
I talked to Carl, the owner of the rv park this morning and found out a bit more about this area. He owns a construction company in Huntington, so we have something in common, and told a few stories about our experiences in the industry. He also owns the adjacent airport and is an avid pilot and sky diver. Turns out he offers sky diving on weekends and invited Donna and I to participate. Alas, we're booked at another location....He also operates a small aviation themed restaurant four days a week...from Thursday to Sunday. We may check it out tomorrow night!
