A midmorning start got us on I94 eastbound at about 10 am. The weather was spectacular, and the traffic was light. A little road construction near the rv park caused our GPS to "recalculate" a time or two, but we found our way, and headed east and south into rural Minnesota.
The countryside is kinda flat out here, good for farming and ranching.
As we dropped down into the Mississippi River valley, the terrain became more interesting.
Of course, the interest was primarily due to the road construction in the area! A new bridge is being built across the Mississippi just west of Onalaska, WI, and the road is all messed up! We managed to snap a quick photo as we crossed the river.
As we neared the Wisconsin River, we noticed signs advertising the many attractions in the Wisconsin Dells, a famous recreation area in the state. Water parks, boating, and stage shows highlight the "things to do in the Dells" list.
197 miles east of Rochester, we pulled into the KOA Madison, which is located in De Forest, WI, about 20 minutes north of Madison. As with most KOA's, the price point is in the top percentiles, with a number of family attractions that don't appeal to some of us in the "mature" category. The brochure described the park as being "close to the city's many attractions, yet set in the countryside with plenty of fresh air and green spaces." Well, technically, that's true.
But what they don't tell you is that the soothing sounds of traffic traveling north and south on I94 is gently pounding the exterior of the rv from it's source a hundred yards away…..
And the view out the window is somewhat underwhelming:
But, it's a KOA, and we know what we'll be getting when we pull in the driveway.
The weather report is for severe storms early Thursday morning, clearing in the afternoon, and thunderstorms and wind Thursday night. Batten down the hatches!
Just think how loud the traffic would have been had the mystery factory building not been there! We endured another venture to that KOA so the noise didn't scare us away too bad. ;)
