Packers and Purses

Roger and Mary left early for a day with family, so Donna and I decided to explore the town of Green Bay, Wisconsin.  We had to stop first for breakfast at Kunkels Korners, a local cafe at the intersection of highway 41 and 29 in downtown Kewaunee.  The hash was crisp and the pancakes were huge, so how could we go wrong? The wind was blowing a gale, and the thermometer read 48 with a "feels like" of 40 degrees.  Whew!  No more short pants for a while!

Just a few miles to the west, Green Bay has a certain mystique about it.  Known as "Titletown" because of the NFL titles won by the Green Bay Packers in the '60's and '70's under the coaching of Vince Lombardi, the town revels in it's rough and tumble, bring 'em on, attitude.  We got to Lambeau Field about 11:00 am, and the place was bustling, getting ready for Sunday's Home Opener with the New York Jets.

The gift shop was a huge zoo, with Packer stuff from soup to nuts. Donna found several purses and shoes that were must-have items!

Meanwhile, I was rummaging through the "Men's Dept": Just the thing for TV watching on Sunday's,

and trash cans for when the game is over!

They even had logo'd BBQ sauce!

We both agreed that Packer labeled maternity wear might be a little over the top:

But the pet beds and T-shirts did have some redeeming value!

We didn't take the tour of the stadium due to the cold weather and the construction that is on-going and preventing access to some parts of the stadium. We couldn't leave without a photo of Vince Lombardi at the Main Entrance!

We drove through the dock area, along Lakeside Drive, trying to find a pretty picture of Green Bay, but the wind and the clouds kept us in the car.  After a stop at Starbucks for a warmup, we headed back to Kawaunee.  We're never one's to drive on a road that we've already been on, so we found a road between GB and Algoma, through some well tended farmland.  Along the way, this barn called to us for help.

Wouldn't you love to hear the stories that are hidden within those crumbling walls?

From Algoma to Kewaunee is about 10 miles, so we were soon home, snug and warm inside Nessie.  We're hoping for better weather tomorrow so we can explore some other parts of this beautiful area.

Today's high temp in Green Bay of 53 degrees broke a 74 year old record for the lowest high on this date. It's supposed to be in the low 40's tonight.  May have to turn on the heater!
