Halfway to Canada

Kewaunee was beautiful this morning when we left, heading north. Our goal was the Island Oasis Casino and RV Park in Harris, MI, where their website claimed to accommodate big rigs with all the amenities of a casino nearby.  We thought that a one-night stay would be ok, with a trip into WalMart for groceries and maybe a trip into the casino restaurant for dinner.

Well, you know what they say about "best laid plans…."  It was only a hundred forty miles to the casino via a very nice highway 41, and our old friend from last year, US 2, along Lake Michigan, so we left late in the morning after saying goodbye to our traveling companions of the last few weeks. When we pulled into the RV park, we walked through to assess the room available since the park was tucked into a wooded area with a great deal of vegetation and trees surrounding it.  Donna and I decided that this was not for us, and walked back to Nessie where we were approached by one of the Casino security personnel, who told us we would have "no trouble" getting in and that the price was only $20, so we decided to unhook Gus and give it a try.

Site #48 looked reasonable, so we made the turn, only to notice a sign, two trees, and an open fire pit in our way.  After pushing the sign out of the way with Nessie's right side baggage doors, and tangling the antennas in the trees, we decided, again, that we didn't like the park. A slow and careful back-out, and a sharp turn at the entrance to the rv park got us back out into the parking lot. Whew! A quick hookup for Gus and we were on our way again, with only having lost about an hour. That doesn't sound like much, but we're back in Eastern Daylight Time again, so we lost an hour to that as well.

Our Plan B was an RV park in Rapid River, MI.  I had talked to the owner a few days ago, and warned her that we may be invading her space tonight!  Unfortunately, by the time we got to the village of Escanaba, Michigan, we were getting pretty tired, and, of course we had to do some grocery shopping, so we stopped at America's RV Park……….

WalMart!

The clouds are threatening rain again, and the high temp today was 57, so we went into the store, asked permission to stay, did some shopping, and got back into Nessie as soon as we could. It's 7:45 pm as I write this, and we have the furnace on, set at 70, and it's been running almost nonstop. Nessie is tucked into spot along the edge of the parking lot where she is sorta out of the way, and we're thinkin' that life is good!

Tomorrow, Lord willing, it's on to the UP. Wish us well!
