Bakersfield, CA

Back in the somewhat tarnished Golden State! Thankfully! Getting out of Las Vegas was an hour long ordeal, due to highway construction, bad GPS directions, and operator error. Right off the get-go, we missed a turn and found ourselves towing the trailer into the Departure Terminal of McCarren airport! Fortunately, a quick right turn avoided that disaster, but sent us in exactly the opposite direction we needed to go.

A couple of miles later, we were towing a 36 foot trailer through construction between the new Sphere and  The Venetian, where traffic lanes are only ten feet wide and freeway on ramps are closed. Eventually, we were on the west side of Las Vegas looking for a good road back to Interstate 15, and after crossing through China Town, found a way to get there!

Finally heading southwest, we were greeted with…..a whole bunch of nothing.

Two hundred eighty one miles later (not counting a few wandering around the lesser known parts of Las Vegas) we pulled into Orange Grove RV Park just east of Bakersfield, California.

We’ve been able to stay here numerous times, but today we have been assigned site number two, in a part of the park that we’ve never stayed in. It’s a very nice park, and we’re fortunate to be able to enjoy nice dog parks, great utilities and friendly staff.

What a day!
