Around Every Turn....

236 miles south of Jasper, we're settled into site C22 at Spring Creek Mountain Village. This mobile home/rv park was established many years ago, and is showing it's age. In fact, bits and pieces of the park are being chewed up as new multistory condominiums are put up. This area of Canmore, AB was originally part of a large ranch. In the 1970's it's owner had a "vision" to develop the area; getting approval from what was then a small town a few miles away from Banff, work was begun. Today, Canmore is an upscale summer and winter recreational area, with all the restaurants, bars, yes, and even a Starbucks, that one would expect from a tourist town.

From our KOA in Hinton, AB, we drove back into Jasper proper this morning, and then south on highway 93, better known as the Icefields Parkway. The highest point, at 6800 feet is at the Columbia Icefields, and then a long, slow descent through other magnificent mountain ranges. Around every bend the view seemed to be even more fascinating!

Several steep and long uphill grades slowed us to a crawl, and lazy tourists (oh, wait...) that were driving way to slow, also made for a long days' trip. We've already determined that we'll have to return to the southern portion of the Parkway in the car so that we can enjoy the scenery in a more leisurely manner.

To the west of Spring Creek, a tall mountain rises. Should be called Saddle Mountain, don't you think?

On the southwest side of the park, the mountains know as The Three Sisters stand guard over the valley.

We've booked a week here, but may not see everything! We'll give it a good try, however!
