Something Extraordinary

Ok, so I said I wouldn't post today, since we were just doing stuff around the motorhome. Well...

Donna started laundry this morning, and so we decided to take Sasha into Hinton, AB, about 4 klicks east, and find a dog park. We did find the dog park, but it was a bit beat up, so we slid onto the adjacent soccer pitch to throw her ball. She, of course, loved it!

After an hour or so of play, we all piled back into the car to finish our other chores in town, one of which was to go to the grocery store. Of the two groceries in town, we chose Fraser Brothers because they had the nicest, newest building. And we soon found out why they do.  As soon as we stepped inside, and went to the cart corral, we noticed a small chain on each cart. Turns out that the use of a cart will cost you 25 cents! The store was indeed nice and bright, with overhead speakers playing soft music interspersed with announcements of special pricing. Donna reviewed her list, and then cut out more than half of the items because the prices were about 30% higher than we had become accustomed to here in Canada. The selection was minimal, at least in the things that we wanted, so the experience soon became an exercise in survival. We exited the store as fast as we could!

Maybe we're a long way from nowhere, or maybe the store prices are just high, but the rental of the shopping carts was something new! Let's hope we have better luck at our next stop.
