Our 14 day LTVA permit expired yesterday for the La Posa North area that we have been in, so we moved to an area called Scaddan Wash, just east of Quartzsite. This area is limited to 14 day camping as well, but does not require the purchase of a permit. There are zero facilities here, no trash, no water, and of course, no emptying the holding tanks. When we need to "refresh" we'll need to tow the trailer down the road a mile of so to an rv park that provides dumping and water for $20, and propane if needed, so we're not completely stranded.
The La Posa LTVA permit is a great deal, as they have two levels of permit: For a $40 fee, camping is allowed for 14 days. For a $180 fee, camping is allowed for the "season", which of course is until the weather warms up, typically in March, or so. We met some people from Oklahoma that cruise in about the first of December and don't leave until March. They have water drums, waste drums, and gas cans, and haul their "stuff" as needed without moving the trailer. We asked them what they do during the day, and the response was that they "haul water". I guess so.
This area in the desert is fascinating and beautiful, but Donna and I have determined that spending the entire winter here is probably not going to be our cup of tea. We've been here 2 weeks and will stay another week to enjoy the RV show, but after that? Methinks an rv spot with grass, asphalt and concrete. Still, $40 total for up to 4 weeks camping is pretty reasonable, and if you play your cards right, after staying in the "free" area for 2 weeks, you can pay the $40 fee at the LTVA for 2 weeks and then go back to the "free" area for 2 weeks, and end up with 6 weeks of dust and dirt for only $40! What a deal!
The weather today is noticeably warmer, and promises to be very nice tomorrow.
What can I say? Another Arizona sunset with Interstate 10 coming down the hill into Quartzsite.
