After a Saturday filled with chores, cleaning, and household things, Ms D needed to get out of the house for a bit. Last evening D prepared a scrumptious meal for Dale and Kathy, our friends from Nappanee, and we enjoyed a comfortable, warm, dry evening with them while the thunderstorms cracked and bumped outside. Dale has a small cannon that he fires from time to time, and when we heard a cannon shot on Friday evening we immediately thought of him! Turns out it was one of his neighbors, but we had to call and tease him about welcoming us back to Indiana! One thing led to another, and we decided to have dinner together and catch up. Good times!
So this morning, D says "Out!", and off we went. Our first stop in what became a large loop drive was the Dime Store in Wakarusa, IN. The Dime Store is a world renowned candy store, and we managed to find a few things to buy, starting with three pounds of taffy!
Donna found a couple of treats that she wanted also!
From Wakarusa, we headed southwest toward Bremen. This is a nice little town with some historical artifacts to see, including the 1892 water tower that has been designated a Landmark by the American Waterworks Association.
Leaving Bremen, we drove south toward one of the last larger towns in the area that we have not visited at one time or another, Warsaw, IN. Warsaw is known in this part of the country for its medical industry, particularly in the area of prosthetic devices. We saw large industrial parks crammed with manufacturing businesses and hundreds of Help Wanted signs. Downtown Warsaw has an interesting building that appears to be unnamed. We drove around it, looking for a name, but didn't find anything. We can only assume it's the county offices because the surrounding area has lots of attorney's offices and bars……
Leaving downtown Warsaw on a side street heading for IN15, we happened upon a branch office of a business that a good friend has back in California. Well, the name is similar, anyway!
And back to Nappanee. Ms D had her outing, Sasha had her nap, and it is, once again, raining like cats and Poodles. As I look out the window, another black cloud is approaching, so "we're in for it now!"
