Sunday in Nappanee, IN, was a rainy, cloudy, day with periods of heavy rainfall. I happened to be taking the trash out in the middle of one of these sudden deluges. Without a hat, my hearing aids both took on water….not a good thing for an electronic device! A quick check back at the motorhome confirmed the worst: time for new hearing aids. Fortunately, it has all worked out.
Nessie had an appointment at the Freightliner hospital on Wednesday, so we made arrangements to drop her off on Tuesday and pick her up on Thursday while we took off in search of new ears. Our Son-in-Law, Monte, happened to be in Bloomington, IN, this week on business, about 220 miles south of Elkhart, and 60 miles south of Indianapolis. We checked, and sure enough, there is a Miracle Ear store in Bloomington, so we decided to take a vacation from our vacation, and hook up with Monte for a couple of days and order the new hearing aids at the same time.
We arrived in Bloomington in time for dinner at Janko's Little Zagreb, a local steakhouse popular with students and family of the University of Indiana, which has it's main campus here.
A couple of T-Bones and a Filet later, we waddled toward the hotel. It was a good thing Monte was driving, because I probably couldn't have fit behind the wheel!
After a great nights' sleep and a leisurely breakfast at the hotel, we went into downtown Bloomington to walk around. The Monroe County Courthouse looked to be interesting from the street, but turned out to be a rather mundane structure with a "loud" injunction against pets of any sort, so we walked around the grounds and up and down a few streets in the area.
An interesting marker on the grounds of the Courthouse:
The Courthouse grounds are "guarded" by a Cotton Tail bunny who didn't seem a bit upset by Sasha!
A few blocks away, we joined the B-Line Trail for a long walk with the dog. Originally the rail bed of the Louisville, New Albany, and Salem Railroad, it has become a prized walking and bicycling path through most of Bloomington.
We joined Monte for dinner again this evening at Dats. As in "Dats a Great Restaurant". It's a casual place in a residential neighborhood near the UI campus.
Monte had been involved with meetings all day, and was exhausted, so after some enjoyable conversation, Red Beans and Rice, Bourbon Chicken, and Jambalaya, we called it a day, and returned to the hotel to prepare to return tomorrow to the humdrum of traveling about this amazing country, seeing new things and talking to new people! Nessie has been serviced and checked out from top to bottom, most of the pieces and parts work, so we're ready to begin our Summer excursion once again!
YeeHaw!
