The weather was iffy all night in Champaign, IL, with off and on thunderstorms and high humidity. When we got up this morning, a bit of cloudiness gave way to more meaningful and substantial formations.
With the weather app indicating a northeast movement, the exact direction that we were planning to go, we go our act together and took off. As you know if you've followed this blog, we try never to travel the same road twice, and prefer side roads to the Interstate, so today a quick 40 miles north on I57 got us to US24 heading due east. This is a well maintained road, just two lanes, but with wide shoulders for the most part, and going through a number of small farming towns. Interspersed between the towns are fields of freshly sprouted corn and soybeans.
Through Gilman, Watseka and Sheldon, the road was straight as an arrow. Just west of Kentland we crossed into Indiana and continued through Goodland, Remington and Monticello, Burnettsville, Lake Cicotte and Clymers. Travel slowed for a few miles as a large, escorted truck load worked its way east.
Just after this "Garden Tractor" passed, the large load turned north and freed up the roadway for us.
We turned north ourselves in Logansport, picking up IN25 toward Rochester. That led us to US31 north which is one of those surface roads in the Midwest that look and feel like an Interstate where we come from! Just a few miles south of South Bend we turned east on US6 and followed it directly into Nappanee, where we'll be hangin' for a few days. We have an appointment on Monday for a small bit of work necessary on the motorhome. After just over two weeks on the road, we've finally arrived at the start of our summer trip. We've seen some great country, visited with some great friends, and traveled just over 2,600 miles so far, and after a few days of service work on the coach, we'll be ready to get on with the fun! Stay with us to see what develops….
