We went through the villages of Waterville, Madison, and Pine Woods; Morrisville, Cazenova (yes, that's spelled correctly), Pompey, and Skaneateles. All were small, old towns, with many, many old houses.
Finally, we reached the town of Phelps, NY, a "famous" sauerkraut area.
And a fine example of 1800's architecture
Cheerful Valley is a nice, green, large rv park with quite a number of sites arranged in such a manner that very few of the sites have close neighbors. We are in site 29, which is reasonably satellite friendly (we get most channels, but not all), and where we receive an NBC affiliate out of Rochester, NY, so we can watch America's Got Talent.
The park follows along a portion of the Flint Creek, which eventually flows to the Erie Canal (yup, that canal).
Along the banks of the Creek are a whole bunch of bushes with unusual flowers/seeds/bugs. I'm gonna have to find out what they are.
After setting up camp this afternoon, we drove into downtown Phelps, then north to the larger town of Newark and finally made a loop east through Lyon and south back to the park. Between Newark and Lyon, the road parallels the Erie Canal. Yup, the very one. It's amazing how much history is around every corner here. It was starting to spit rain, with heavy wind, so we hunkered down in the motorhome and enjoyed the evening catching up on laundry…..
