The downtown area is small and confined to a main street and a couple of short side streets, but business have managed to stuff a score of restaurants, half a dozen ice cream shops, two tee shirt stores, and a dozen art galleries into the narrow space.
We had skipped a late breakfast in favor of an early lunch, so we stopped into Tia's Topside to see what they had to offer.
We sat at a table on the downstairs patio, under the umbrella on the left. It was a perfect place to have a quiet, wonderful lunch, and enjoy a view of the Kennebunk River.
We ordered a plate of Mussels, sauteed in Tomato and Chorizo Bisque.
Added a couple of bowls of Chowdah, and a plate of Coconut Shrimp.
The food was delicious! It's TripAdvisor 5 star food for a reasonable price. We talked at length with the owner, Laura, about her chef and servers, and her comment was "I love my kids". It shows. The wait staff was courteous, prompt and efficient, but not hovering, and as I said, the food was to die for!
After a walk around the downtown area, with a stop for a cup of ice cream at Rococo's (Salty Sweet Cream for D, and Maine Moose for me), we headed home for the afternoon.
The beaches hereabouts are the prime reason for visiting, so the local municipalities have taken advantage by charging either for access or for parking, or both. The Red Apple Campground where we are staying has several parking permits available for guests to use, so we got one and headed to Kennebunkport Beach. Before nine am, and after five pm, dogs are allowed on the beach, so we took Sasha for a run in the waves.
She immediately made friends with a Weimaraner pup. They ran in circles for most of an hour, getting completely wet and sandy. Tumbling and nipping, they had a great time!
Sasha finally met a dog that was as fast as she is!
After two hours on the beach, we were all tired, so we packed up our sandy shoes (and leashes) and headed home for a bath and dinner! What a gorgeous day! Thank you, Maine!
