Monday morning at Newmar: The forklifts started running at 5:30 am, the RV's started moving at 6:00 am, and the area was quiet by 7:00 am when all the service bays were full and the techs were runnin'. We still had a few items to finish, but we waited for all the people with appointments to get in and going, so at about 9, I strolled into the service area to talk to my man Todd. As ever, Todd was extremely patient with me and told me he would have an answer to some outstanding chassis issues later in the afternoon. Well, ok....
So, D and I were left with nothing to do (again) for the day. Off to Goshen for lunch seemed to be at the top of the list, so we left town with a cup of coffee from Main Street Coffee in Nappanee in our hands and Pris on the console doing her hood ornament imitation. The restaurant that we wanted to have lunch at in Goshen, the South Side Diner, was closed for vacation, so we started looking for some neat stuff in town to look at. We located the Keystone RV facility where they make towable rv's. What a place!
This place is huge! It must cover 8 or 10 city blocks in an industrial park. Each brand under the Keystone name is made in its own area and then stored for transport to the dealer.
We started counting the completed rv's, but lost count at roughly 100, with more frames and wheels stacked up waiting to be built, and "help wanted" signs everywhere. The industrial park is full of supporting industries, from plumbing supply houses to mattress suppliers. We took a pic of this high-line fifth wheel
and then a block up the street saw this:
What a contrast!
Just before we left the parking lot, a young Amish couple with a tiny baby walked up to the carriage, climbed in, and clip clopped off down the street. Welcome to Indiana.
While we were in Goshen, we got a call from Freightliner, the maker of Nessies' chassis with some good news about a front wheel/tire problem we have been having, so now we have an appointment with Hill Truck Service in Elkhart on Thursday to resolve the issues. We were so close, we decided to go to Elkhart to see where the shop is located and to find an rv park to "live" in while we're there. Mission accomplished, we started back to Nappanee, when we got a call from Newmar telling us that the floor tile we had ordered to repair a couple of cracked tile had arrived and would be at our motorhome when we returned. Wow! Two good things in the same day!
We know the Keystone factories and neighborhood very well, as this is where we took the Big Sky for his necessary repairs. Keystone was kind enough to put us up overnight, along with our dog, in a brand new Holiday Inn Express, I believe, right by the Keystone Factories. Yes indeed, it is quite impressive there. Just trailer after trailer full of RV frames.
