Got our last few pieces and parts this morning, said goodbye to the Newmar staff that we've developed a close kinship with, and fired up Nessie for the first time in 10 days to hit the road. After all this time, it took us a bit of time to re-acquaint ourselves with the creaks and groans of a motorhome rolling down the road. After 20 odd miles of Hwy 19 north.....we had arrived at our destination for the day!
We have an appointment at Hill Truck Sales in Elkhart tomorrow to have a couple of issues with the chassis addressed. Nothing fancy....the front tires appear to be out of balance, and while we're there, I want to get a set of filters and belts for the engine; I'll need them eventually.
So with the afternoon to kill, we decided to go back to the RV/Motorhome Hall of Fame. We noticed as we came into town that there were hundreds of RV's of every type and size scattered all over town. Turns out that the industry is having a "dealers only" show, exhibiting the 2014 models. Seems perfect, as most of the country's rv's are made within 50 miles of Elkhart.
The Hall of Fame had some interesting exhibits, from the very old:
To the unusual:
To the "What were they thinking?":
This guy was built on a Cadillac chassis, with Oldsmobile power. It is a custom unit, in case you didn't know...
Donna and I remembered the Shasta trailer we once owned....
Seems to be a lot smaller than we remembered....
We left the RV/Motorhome/Exhibit Hall and headed back to the rv park. We're staying at the Elkhart Campground, on CR 4 just north of the Indiana Toll Road. It's a nice place, but a bit overpriced. I seem to say that a lot lately.
A slight wrong turn put us in Michigan on the way to Edwardsville. We drove along through farmland until we came across this place:
Billed as the biggest fishing store in the state, we had a difficult time finding a parking place, so we headed back to Elkhart. We'll have to check this out later.
Off to Freightliner tomorrow. Oh, what will the 'morrow bring...
