From Laredo to Palmdale RV Park in Los Fresnos, TX, is about 219 miles of rangeland. Gradually becoming more and more green as the road approaches the Gulf of Mexico, it was a pleasant drive, mostly on two lane state or US highways.
Through Mirando City, Hebbronville, and Falfurrias, then south to McAllen, east to Harlingen, south again towards Brownsville brought us to Los Fresnos, about 25 miles west of South Padre Island, in a quiet rural area. The park is very nice, with spacious sites, as you might expect from a facility that was at one time a mobil home park. We are in the back of the park, away from the noise in site 102, and it is wonderful!
The wide open sites are great for Sasha and her requirement to chase and fetch balls! See that red Dodge pickup in the background? That belongs to Dan and Ann, the people from California that we camped next to in Terlingua a few days ago! What are the odds? So we've been able to spend a bit of time with them and have thoroughly enjoyed their company.
Friday, we spent the day catching up on postponed chores. Grocery shopping, cleaning, laundry and such. We were able to have lunch at Pappadoux's Restaurant, a New Orleans style seafood place, where we had a bowl of seafood bisque, a bowl of sausage and seafood gumbo, along with a loaf of soft French bread with butter. Yum!
Oh, and don't forget the Sweet Tea!
The weather prediction for thunderstorms seemed to be coming true as the afternoon progressed, so after chatting with Dan and Ann for a couple of hours, and sampling some smoked sausage bbq and seafood cocktail that they had found during their travels earlier in the day, we decided to call it a night.
Another great day!
