Ky-ark-tn, an Indian word meaning "We're coming Home"

Ok, it's a stretch with the title....

We left West Paducah, Kentucky this morning in the rain, and after following US 45 south through Mayfield, we found US 51 in Union City, Tennessee. We followed that through Dyersburg, Ripley, and Covington before sliding into the north side of Memphis and hooking up with I-40 westbound. Just a few miles west, past the famous Bass Pro Shops Pyramid that we saw some time ago, and across the Mississippi River that we crossed eastbound last April, we found the town of West Memphis, Arkansas. Just south of that, on the banks of the Mississippi, we found Tom Sawyer's RV Park.

After setting up a minimum camp (just one night) we walked a hundred yards to the banks of the Mississippi and watched barges go up and down the river. This set of barges was carrying what looked like stone of some kind. There wasn't much space between the waterline and the deck of the barges!

As one barge would come round the bend from Memphis and points north,

Another would motor upriver from the south.

Forth and Back...

We took a last fond look at the Mighty Mississip'. It's a grand, great river and crossing it means that we are truly heading west.

Good Night, East Coast.
