The local transit system was very busy, so we decided to drive into Fair Park, where the State Fair and the Cotton Bowl are located. Football fans will recognize that name. Fair Park is just south of downtown Dallas, and on the way we passed through an interchange known locally as the "High Five" for the number of highways that merge at that location.
What can I say? Everything is bigger in Texas!
At the Fair, we noticed the large number of free things to do, see, or eat. Chevrolet had several exhibits, one of which was set up so that people could test drive any Chevrolet product, from a Cruze to a Pickup to a Corvette. They had a series of tracks set up and several different levels of each product line.
The Girls listened to a short speech and were given free toothbrushes and toothpaste!
And the Wolf Chili booth was giving away samples of their tasty Chili.
A walk past the Cotton Bowl got us to…..
The Midway!
Grumpy and D tried a selfie, but it the sun didn't co-operate, and Big Tex in the background was patting the top of D's head, making Grumpy even more Grumpy. Big Tex is the iconic symbol of the fair, and at 55 feet tall, makes a Texas-sized impression! The first Big Tex was unveiled in 1952, but on Oct 19, 2012, an electrical fire started in the right boot and set Tex on fire, finally erupting from his neck. A new Tex was unveiled in 2013.
We didn't have a great deal of time due to having pups waiting for us at home, but we did manage to get by the food areas to check out the latest in "Fair Food".
Of course, Grumpy had to have his corn on the cob. No napkins equals much facial mess…..
Near the end of the Midway, Juicys Outlaw Grill claims to be the worlds largest. They may just be right! Look at all those Turkey legs!
Juicys brought their show in a very nicely decorated 18-wheeler, benches, tables, and grill!
On the return trip we got a nice view of the Dallas skyline from the south.
Commute traffic was horrible, so we packed it in early after an exciting day at the fair. Back at the motorhome, we washed some of last weeks bugs off the windshield and took Sasha for a romp in the lake. Yeah…she loves the water! I didn't have the camera, but I'll try to get a pic later. It's a kick to see this dog splash through the water as fast as she can!
A fun time for all!! Loved that day even if it was a little warm!
