Headin' East

Donna and I left Everett Washington this morning in good order and on schedule to have an easy drive to Coulee City, WA.  It must have been comical to watch us, because we just couldn't seem to get to the right roads to get out of town.  Our GPS, named "Siri" on the iPhone, marched us out of the Lakeside RV Park and told us to turn right. Of course, being a guy, I believed that we should turn left. So for the next hour we did circles around town because Siri kept trying to turn us around, and I kept resisting.  When we passed the same intersection for the third time, I gave up and followed directions.  Problem solved and we were on our way.

We're going to try to stay on US 2 as far east as we can.  Today we made it to eastern Washington, leaving the clouds, rain, and beautiful trees behind.  It was raining when we left the park this am, which was a good thing as the sewer hose exploded as I was dumping the black water tank and sent unmentionable stuff down the parking lot.  A quick hose job and the rain helped cover it up, but we left ASAP.

We're staying in a Washington State campground, Sun Lakes State Park, and it is beautiful. Situated along a river with high bluffs on either side.  It's a huge campground with lots of grass and lots of families.  There are kids playing everywhere, and it's kinda cool to hear all the activity.  The sites are generally very good sized, but typically out of level.  I've run out of travel on the hydraulic jacks, so we're just "close" tonite.  We can only stay one night due to the site being rented out for the weekend, but it's a very nice place.  We'll be back if we can.

Our trip over Stevens Pass was pretty uneventful.  We stopped at a very nice rest area for lunch, and enjoyed a walk and the scenery.

When we dropped out of the Cascades, the terrain changed dramatically:

We passed through Wenatchee and all of the Peach, Apricot, and Apple orchards.  There were fruit stands on every block, but no place to park Nessie, so we had to pass on the goodies.  Oh I forgot to tell you that there is a neat Bavarian village called Leavenworth just west of Wenatchee where even the McDonalds and Starbucks stores were done up like the Alps.  Again, no parking, but a nice place to drive to one day.

I should mention that this campspot, while beautiful, is a bit pricey.  The basic rate is $32 a night, but then there was the 8.50 reservation fee and the 5.00 non resident fee, and tax....you get the idea...

But Pris liked the grass, so that's the end of that story...
