Visiting a Friend

We spent the day relaxing around our rv site.  We had a bit of organizing to do, so it was great to have some time to it.  Donna re-organized the kitchen in Nessie, and I repacked the truck that we tow behind Nessie.  I had left home two weeks ago with generators, firewood, and such that all seemed to end up in the bed of the truck, and when we left Carlotta (sob) in Oregon we dumped a bunch more stuff in the bed, so that all had to be repacked.
This evening we hooked up with Jeff, whom we had met in Tucson earlier this year. His wife was away this weekend visiting her Mom, but we were fortunate to catch Jeff with an afternoon to kill.  Jeff and his wife live in a beautiful home on the shore of Lake Pend Oreille in Sandpoint, ID.  The lake name is pronounced "pon-de-ray", I'm told, but whatever the words, it is a beautiful lake.  At some 1500 feet deep and 45 miles long, it rivals the biggest and best of the worlds lakes.

In the distance, you can see the bridge for Hwy 95 that crosses the lake and runs through Sandpoint.  Just to the east, there is a double railroad track that also crosses the lake and finds its way north.

Jeff was took us to dinner at The Lodge at Sandpoint, another place with a spectacular view of the lake.  Donna ordered fresh trout and Jeff and I ordered steak and 'shrooms.  We followed that with bread pudding and carrot cake with coffee.  The Lodge is a rustic log building reminiscent of Yellowstone Lodge, though on a smaller scale.  There is outdoor dining as well as indoor tables (we chose the indoor option), and the landscaping is beautiful.

Here we are all gussied up.....
