The best laid plans.....etc,etc.
Today, Donna and I planned to enjoy one of the most popular activities in the Ft Lauderdale/Hollywood, Florida, area....The Water Taxi.
This service runs a circuit up and down the Intracoastal Waterway and the New River, stopping at a variety of hotels, restaurants, and shops. We didn't expect to stop at every place, but we wanted to take advantage of a warm, dry, day and cruise along some of the most expensive watercraft outside Dubai.
Unfortunately, plans are made to be changed, right?
Sasha took off this morning on our early walk as usual, but by the time we finished, she was obviously distressed. Careful observation led us to a diagnosis of severe stomach discomfort, so we stayed close to home and kept an eye on her. The poor little girl was listless most of the day, but has perked up dramatically after a short evening "constitutional". We went to a local pet/vet store this morning, and got some soothing medication for her, and she has responded nicely.
Needless to say, our plans went out the window. While we comforted Sasha we also went to two grocery stores and the post office. Once home, we seized the opportunity to clean house, a job that typically gets swept "under the rug" due to time constraints.
We're confident that we can continue our journey tomorrow, but I guess we'll have to come back to take a boat ride!
Sad edit: A little after I wrote the frivolous piece above, all wrapped up in my own little world, Donna and I received some distressing news. Donna's cousin Sandra passed away this afternoon at a far too early age. Sandra was the quintessential southern woman. Not the glitzy, glamorous wives of Memphis, but the strong, unassuming and devoted mother and grandmother that is the bedrock upon which we build our lives. Sandra loved and protected her two girls beyond measure, in situations that would seem she could not bear, but she did. She kept her family together, working for the school while keeping a farm. Who knows how she did it. But she did. Sandra's love for her grandchildren knew no bounds, and one of the last things she said was that she would be a guardian angel for her yet-to-be born youngest grandchild. And she will.
